#RMCC1 was one of 70 teams competing at the national championship tournament in Cincinnati. We also brought 3 other teams with us. RMCC1 made it through the winner’s bracket into the finals undefeated by beating Bear Creek2, Bible1, Novesta, Mount Pleasant2, Community, and Beavercreek. Beavercreek made it back into the finals by winning the Loser’s bracket. In the finals, we had to defeat Beavercreek in one out of two final games (since we were undefeated and Beavercreek had one loss). Beavercreek won the first game, and they led at halftime of the second game, but we answered 5 in a row to give us a semi-comfortable lead, and when we answered #19 we knew we had it won. All three players got correct buzzes in the championship rounds. (Apparently Katie was saving them up since she didn’t buzz in any of the previous 6 games).
All this with cameras from TLC recording the game to be included in their upcoming mini-series, and a ballroom full of people watching.
The level of support we received from players and coaches throughout the tournament was encouraging, and made me proud of not only #RMCC1, but of all our kids. We repeatedly received glowing reports from other coaches about our teams. Other teams enjoy playing against Rocky, and they cheered us on as we moved into the later rounds. It’s exciting to watch the crowds grow larger in each round as teams are knocked out and they choose to come follow us. Having all the teams from our Round Robin (Bible, Northglen, and Mountainside), pulling for us meant a lot.
#RMCC2 won 2 games in the tournament and ended up tied for 25th! The quizmaster for their final game was impressed with their skill. Definitely some players to watch next year! Their team motto/goal was “Fun in the Face of Fire”, and they certainly achieved that. (Both the “Fun” and the “Fire” part!)
#RMCC3 was disappointed to lose their first two games in the tournament, but then went on to place 2nd in their challenger round robin, earning some medals in the process!
#RMCC4 also lost their first two games in the tournament, but won a couple of games in their challenger bracket. They achieved all of the goals they had set out for themselves so the tournament was a success for them as well!

National Championship Final Game
I love Joe’s laugh when Dustin sealed the win by getting #19 correct, and Katie’s knowing look to her mom during the reading of question 20.
